Horizon Robotics (“Horizon”), a global leader in AI computing platforms for intelligent vehicles, has announced its latest collaboration with BYD Co, Ltd (“BYD”), China’s best-selling electric vehicle brand, to equip BYD vehicles with Horizon’s latest generation AI processor – Journey® 5.
With a target SOP of mid-2023, BYD is the first automaker to publicly announce the series-production design-in using Horizon’s Journey® 5, with the intention to expand the deployment to more vehicle models in the future. Horizon’s Journey® 5 is a high-performance automotive AI processor optimized for advanced autonomous driving applications. It features high power efficiency and cost effectiveness, powered by Horizon’s proprietary AI accelerator BPU®. Other top automakers such as SAIC Motor, Great Wall Motors, Changan Automobile and JAC Group also expressed series production intent with Journey® 5 when it was first unveiled in July 2021.
China’s automotive industry is accelerating the development of electrification, digitalization and intelligent driving. With the vision to empower every vehicle with its AI computing platform, Horizon provides industry-leading intelligent driving solutions and dedicated support services to ensure customer success. Horizon continuously wins industry recognition and trust with an open and highly collaborative business model. Horizon has shipped over one million Journey® processors, and is on the fast track of commercialization and market share growth.
BYD was the largest NEV seller in China in 2021 with about 600,000 vehicles sold. The collaboration marks another significant milestone in the two companies’ long-term strategic relationship. BYD participated in Horizon’s previous fundraising and was among the first group of top automobile companies that expressed production intent for Journey® 5 processors. Going forward, BYD and Horizon will work closely together to create a safe and comfortable intelligent driving experience for more BYD users and accelerate the development of China’s intelligent vehicle industry.
